MISSOULA’S DOWNTOWN MASTER PLAN
PRESENTATION OF THE DRAFT DOWNTOWN MASTER PLAN
WEDNESDAY, MAY 22 AT 5:30 PM AT THE WILMA
After nearly eight months of community engagement, planning, writing and editing, Dover, Kohl & Partners will return to Missoula May 21-23 to present the draft Downtown Master Plan to the community. The Community Presentation will take place on Wednesday, May 22 at 5:30 pm at The Wilma (131 S. Higgins) in Downtown Missoula.
Following the community presentation, Victor Dover, founding principal of Dover, Kohl & Partners and coauthor of Street Design: The Secret to Great Cities & Towns, will give a brief presentation called Street Talk: Streets for People.
The update of the Downtown Master Plan was launched last October 2018, and the week-long charrette was held in January 2019. Nearly 3,000 Missoulians have participated in the process of developing a new vision for the Heart of Missoula.
“Missoula has an incredibly educated and engaged population that really cares about their Downtown, and the level of participation in this process has been extraordinary,” said Jason King, principal and senior project director for Dover, Kohl & Partners. “We are excited to showcase what we heard from the community and how we have incorporated what we heard into the new vision for Downtown Missoula.”
In addition to the public presentation, there will be 12 additional meetings and presentations to be held in Missoula from mid-day Tuesday through mid-day Thursday, May 21-23. The full meeting schedule can be found online at the link below:
Following the public presentation of the draft plan, all the chapters will be posted on this website for public review. Necessary revisions to the plan will be made over the summer, and formal adoption of the plan will take place in September.
The plan focuses on all things that make a Downtown great, including economic development, historic preservation, housing, parking, parks & trails, public spaces, streets, transportation, and more. The values the plan is centered around include authenticity, inclusivity, innovation, sustainability, versatility and viability.
